When you subscribe to sponsoring a beehive, a brand-new hive is built and prepared to house your bees. The hive will be given its own specific reference number and, in spring, a new mated queen and nursing bee colony will be introduced to their new home ready to grow.

The hive will be looked after by qualified and experienced beekeepers to ensure it remains healthy and in peak condition for both plant pollination and honey production. We will keep you informed along the whole journey by including you in our unique weekly e-keeper™ educational programme as well as bi-monthly specific beehive updates. You will watch the colony grow, understand how the hive works and begin to love your new friends as you follow their story.

The South Island is an ideal place for bees to thrive (less disease and more space). The new hives will be located in areas surrounding Geraldine, South Canterbury, nestled between the foothills of the Southern Alps and the fertile Canterbury plains. The bees will have access to native bush as well as crops and pastures in NZ’s productive ‘food bowl’.

Hive sponsorship covers all on-going hive costs (maintenance/repairs, feeds, disease
